Coffee from the Grounds Up
Try a cup - you may never be
satisfied with a regular cup of coffee again!
We use 100% organic coffee.
60% is organic fair trade sumatra takengon coffee and 40% is organic
ugandan white nile coffee. Combined, these coffee beans
produce a classic mocha java blend called Bernice’s Blend.
Hunter Bay Coffee Roasters
roasts our coffee locally. It
roasted three times a week and delivered fresh.
Our coffee is brewed using a state
of the art brewer, called an extractor. The
extractor saturates the grounds with hot water, then pauses for
over a minute to allow the grounds to expand. The extractor
completes the brewing process by pushing hot water through the
grounds and extracting maximum flavor with minimal bitterness.
Finally, filtered water and twice
as much coffee completes the brew of Bernice’s Blend. The
coffee is brewed directly into 3 liter airpots and promptly served.

COFFEE GROUNDS. THE
MISSOULA URBAN
DEMONSTRATION PROJECT AND THEIR “COFFEE TO COMPOST” PROGRAM
SENDS VOLUNTEERS OUT ON BICYCLES TO PICK UP OUR COFFEE GROUNDS EVERY
WEEK. OUR COMPOSTED COFFEE GROUNDS AND EGG SHELLS ARE THEN DEPOSITED AT
THE NORTHSIDE COMMUNITY GARDENS WHERE THEY ARE MIXED WITH LEAVES AND
GRASS CLIPPINGS FROM ST. MARY’S CEMETARY.
GARDEN CITY
HARVEST MANAGES THIS GARDEN PROVIDING COMPOST TO OVER 55 GARDEN
PLOTS. MANY OF THESE PLOTS ARE FOOD AID PLOTS THAT PROVIDE FRESH,
LOCALLY GROWN ORGANIC PRODUCE TO THE POVERELLO CENTER, JOSEPH RESIDENCE,
THE YWCA, AND THE BATTERED WOMEN’S SHELTER.
